Today The MYTHIC 2022 Kickstarter Was Launched

Since I started a subscription drive back on January 10th, I mulled over the idea of launching another Kickstarter campaign that would also serve as a vehicle for the 2022 subscription drive.

Today, I launched the campaign and as of this Tuesday night post, the primary goal amount is 60% funded. Once it passes 100%, there is no danger losing what has been gained due to Kickstarter's 'all or nothing' funding policy.

Anyway, I've said enough here. Go check out the Kickstarter page. I'm offering subscriptions and other rewards.

Thanks.

MYTHIC First 2022 Subscription Drive

Update: 1/25/2022: I just launched a Kickstarter Subscription Drive: http://kck.st/32wrDev

Today begins the first subscription drive of 2022 for MYTHIC: A Science Fiction & Fantasy Magazine. For the next two weeks, I will be promoting this drive and our goals for gaining subscribers to the magazine.

The primary way we are counting new subscribers will be to use sign ups to Patreon. There are three different levels of support you can pledge and receive eBook and print subscriptions or both—$2, $5, and $10 a month.

As mentioned in the previous post, I've decided to move MYTHIC to a monthly publication but have dropped the story count to four new/original works, 1 or 2 reprint stories, various nonfiction content such as articles or reviews.

By paying the current rate of 1 CENT A WORD for original and a $25 flat rate for REPRINT fiction, I would need something like $250-$300 a month to pay for a single issue. That means, the more subscribers I have the more money there is available to raise the rates or increase the number of stories, etc.

Subscriber Goal

Currently, we only have 17 Patreon subscribers. While I did pick up a number of new ones in the Subscription Drive last year through Kickstarter, more are needed to pay for monthly issues of MYTHIC. Depending on the number of new subscribers I receive, I will be able to pay authors more for their stories as well as do other things like add original artwork to the issues.

I've decided to start with one goal and add other when/if we meet the first one.

Goal #1: 100 new subscribers

MYTHIC's Future

You may have seen a post here announcing the indefinite suspension of MYTHIC. I took that post down because I couldn't bear to really let that happen.

Now I face the question what I am I going to do now. What is MYTHIC's Future?

The bottom line is that I'm not closing it: I won't let it die. But MYTHIC has to change. The format will change in big ways but ultimately the number of stories published each year will remain the same. In fact, there well could be more by year's end than in the past.

This is all going to a big challenge for me, but with help I think we can do it.

I've had support through subscribers and patrons on Patreon in the past. I'll asking for more of the same. I announced a while back that MYTHIC will also welcome advertisements. Those will still be welcome.

So, what am I doing?

First, the magazine will be going to a monthly model. I think more MYTHIC more frequently might be what is needed to draw more eyes (and readers) to it.

I'll still be doing eBook and print editions of the magazine and, consequently, doing subscriptions for both as well.

By moving to monthly, there be about 4 original short stories per issue. I might include reprints as well.

I'm considering other content like essays/nonfiction/reviews, as I've had in past issues. Those will be flat rate work if included.

Words counts would drop on the top end so the range would be 2,000 words to 5,000 words. No wiggle room, really.

I'll really have to watch word counts to keep the costs under control until I can expand. But I need subscribers and patrons. I need supports who believe and want to see MYTHIC stick around and succeed.

There it is folks. The anti-closing post!!!!
